Abstract

Purpose: This study was to identify the factors related to Risk of Fall of the Elderly in Facilities.

Methods£º The subjects of this study were 122 elderly in facility located in B Metropolitan City. The data were collected by structured questionnaire from December 1 to December 30£¬2009.

Results: The average of Activity of daily Living was 36.78¡¾ 14.57 and cognitive function was 16.09÷Ï9.07£¬risk of fall was average 12.95¡¾7.16. The risk of fall of the subject showed significantly differences according to degree of long-term care(F=17.20, P=.000), Ability of writing and reading(F=-3.28, P=.001), Ability of walking(F=54.48, P=.000), Perceived health status(F=3.62,P=.030). The risk of fall showed significantly correlation between Activity of Daily Living(r=-.714,p=.000), Instrument Activity of Daily Living (r=- .664, p= .000). cognitive function(r=-.558, p= .000). The factors on risk of fall revealed the activity of daily living was the most powerful factor by 46.2%, and cognition function, walking ability, ability of IADL, it was total 60.3%.

Conclusion: This study identified the factors on risk of fall of the elderly in facility were activity of daily living and cognition function. Therefore, it is necessary to improves the activity of daily living and cognition function of the elderly in facility.
